5 Tips for Beginning a Group Fitness Routine

1. Pick a class that sounds interesting or fun to you!

Look at the class descriptions on our website here. Pick a class or maybe two that sound like they would be fun and plan a time that you will attend the class.

2. Let the instructor know it is your first time.

Show up about 5 minutes early to class, and let the instructor know that it is your first class! They will be able to tell you what to expect from the class, and also give you tips on how to succeed! Please remember – the instructor is there to help you, if you have questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

3. Listen to your body.

Only you know how you are feeling and what you can handle. Take a break when you need to, breathe, and make sure to stay hydrated!

4. Don’t overthink it.

You will only need what you typically bring with you to the gym: a water bottle, and proper footwear–a confident attitude also helps! We provide all of the equipment you will need to participate in the class, you can of course bring your own if you would like but it’s not necessary.

5. Don’t give up!

Many group fitness classes, Zumba and BODYPUMP ® for example, have a distinct rhythm that takes time getting used to. You may not find that in your first class, but keep trying–you will find it! If you don’t love a class after trying it 2–3 times, try another. There’s one out there you will fall in love with!
